Derbyshire man wins compensation payout - years after beating

A man from Ashfield, Derbyshire, who fought his own legal battle for compensation after he was savagely injured in a street attack has been awarded £235,000.

Neil Harpham, of High Street, was left with a fractured skull, permanent brain damage and bad eyesight after he was knocked unconcious following an attack by two yobs in Huthwaite in 1993.

Harpham was awarded £30,000 compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority after the attack but claimed the amount was too low.

He then enrolled on a law degree at the University of Derby in 1999 to fight his personal injury claim and after years of fighting the legal system was finally awarded £235,000.
