Ann Jones' pavement slipping claim

Ann Jones was out shopping one morning in Birmingham City Centre, and in the street where she was walking, construction work was taking place.

Due to the construction work being inadequately guarded, small particles of sand and gravel were present on the pavement. As a result, Mrs Jones slipped and fell, suffering a serious injury to her shoulder.

She then instructed this firm to make a personal injury claim on her behalf. Right from the outset liability was strenuously contested, with the relevant construction firm attempting to deflect the claim is one of the firms of subcontractors site present on site.

The compensation claim proceeded almost as far as trial, but three days beforehand the defendants made settlement proposals that were acceptable.
